Immigration Status and Ohio Residency for Tuition

Both independent and dependent students must currently hold an eligible visa status to apply for Ohio residency. If you currently hold an ineligible visa but have paid to adjust your visa to an eligible status through the Department of Homeland Security, you may apply for Ohio residency by providing your receipt of application for change of status prior to beginning the reclassification application, or Online Residency Form.

To verify or update your status, upload your immigration documentation.

Immigration Status – Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students in Ohio may apply for Ohio residency for tuition purposes under the guidelines established by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. To be considered for Ohio residency, you must first submit your unexpired I-797 Notice of Action receipt verifying your approval of deferred action to Ohio State.

Upload your immigration documentation prior to the first day of classes for the term in which you are seeking resident status.

When your DACA status has been updated, you will be notified if a residency reclassification application is also required to confirm your eligibility for Ohio residency for tuition purposes. All other requirements for residency must be met, and additional documentation may be required.
