Step 5: Residency Application Status and Decisions
Please note that due to high volume, there will be extended processing times.
We love to hear from students from The Ohio State University, but unfortunately, we are not able to provide a date when your application will be processed. Please be aware we are working hard every day to process applications accurately and quickly. Your status in Buckeye Link indicates the current status of your application.
Status inquiries and multiple follow up messages delay processing time. We understand your desire to receive a decision quickly and appreciate your patience as we work to best assist you.
We will contact you directly if additional information is needed.
Please verify that you have enrolled for the term and submitted all requested documentation on your Residency Reclassification Form.
Processing of your application only begins when these two conditions are met:
- You are enrolled for the term in which you are filing your residency application
- All required documentation has been received
You can view your Residency Application Status and Document List by selecting Residency in the dropdown selection menu within the Personal Information section as shown in steps 1-3 in Buckeye Link (current student) or Applicant Center (applicant to The Ohio State University).
If you are having issues logging into your BuckeyeLink, you can contact the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) at 614-688-HELP or email them at 8HELP@osu.edu.
This status will appear once you have completed the Online Residency Form and remain until all the requested documents have been received.
This status will appear once all items on your document list have been received. This means that your application is ready to be processed, and a processor will be reviewing it in the order it was received. Please note that due to high volume, there will be extended processing times. We understand your desire to receive a decision and appreciate your patience. We will contact you if additional information is needed.
This status will appear once your request is being reviewed by a processor.
This status will appear if any additional documents are needed to complete your request. Please be sure to read the section labeled "notes to student" (under your document list) for more detailed information.
This status will appear if your request has been approved according to the guidelines set by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Your record will be updated, and your tuition and fees will be recalculated and reflected on an updated Statement of Account available in Buckeye Link.
This status will appear if your application was approved based on the Residency Classification C-3 (you need to submit the Online Residency Form each term of enrollment until your spouse, parent or legal guardian (that you are dependent upon) has submitted documentation for a full, 12-month cycle), or Residency Classification E-1 (you need to submit the Online Residency Form each term to obtain your Ohio residency status; once you have lived in Ohio for a full, 12-month cycle, you may consider applying under the Residency Classification C-2). Your record will be updated, and your tuition and fees will be recalculated and reflected on an updated Statement of Account available in Buckeye Link.
This status will appear if your request has been denied according to the guidelines set by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. A list of why you were denied will be listed in the "Notes to Student" section of the Online Residency Form. If your application is denied you can appeal. Please review the Residency Appellate Review Process webpage for details. Instructions are included in the denial notification.
This status will appear if you have not submitted the requested documents by the published deadline for the specified semester/term. You must submit a new application for a future semester/term and submit the documentation requested for consideration. The information from past applications is not transferred.
