OUR Training and Information Sessions
To request access to the Student Information System (SIS), the person in your office/department that oversees security should complete the form located on the OCIO’s (Office of the Chief Information Officer) Security Workflow and Roles website. (Section 7 contains the requests forms for Student Records access and Section 5 contains a list of persons who are authorized to request access.) If they have already submitted this form, please have them contact access@osu.edu to check on the status of the request.
*Protecting Institutional Data (previously: Institutional Data Policy Training) through the OCIO will need to be completed prior to obtaining a Student Information System (SIS) account.
FERPA Training
(Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended)
The online FERPA curriculum will contain the following training modules: Introduction to FERPA, FERPA Basics, and The Ohio State University’s FERPA Training. Completion of training related to FERPA is required of all who work with student data.
Requirements: Ohio State lastname.# and associated password, and an active employee affiliation.
Registration: Available through BuckeyeLearn self-enrollment by selecting go.osu.edu/ferpatraining. This link will register you for the training and launch it through BuckeyeLearn. You do not have to finish all of the training at once. You can return to it by accessing BuckeyeLearn and selecting the MY TRANSCRIPT button in the middle of the BuckeyeLearn homepage. Please note, if you are unable to launch the course, you may need to disable your web browser’s pop-up blocker, please see go.osu.edu/blpopup for directions.

SIS Training for Student Records Users

Student Records View Only
The Student Records View Only course will prepare you to identify the basic components of the academic structure, understand how the academic calendar works and calculate the term within an academic year.
Requirements: Ohio State lastname.# and associated password.
Registration: When access is approved, an invitation will be sent to your Ohio State email. Completed through Carmen.
Time: Approximately 30 minutes.
Student Records: Enrollment for Maintenance Users
The Student Records - Enrollment for Maintenance Users training session is designed to familiarize you with the Student Information System (SIS). This is an overview of the various student records and enrollment maintenance processes within the SIS.
Requirements: FERPA Training and Student Records View Only.
Registration: When access is approved, an invitation will be sent to your Ohio State email. Completed through Carmen. Please email the University Registrar at registrar@osu.edu for more information.
Time: Approximately 1.5 hours.
Transfer Credit Training
(Advisors and Department Staff)
Need help answering those difficult transfer-related questions? Learn how to better serve your transfer students through this session, whether they're freshmen, new transfer admits, or established students looking to earn credit over the summer. Transferology, accreditation, articulation, TAGs, OTMs and other items will be covered.
Requirements: None.

Degree Audit Exception System Training
(Advisors and Department Staff)
Advisors and staff will learn how to tailor the Degree Audit Report to meet the needs of specific students by posting academic exceptions to individual student records.
Requirements: Ohio State lastname.# and associated password; access to Degree Audit System and exceptions. Requirements and instructions for requesting access are available through the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation.

Scheduling Training
(Department Staff)
This training is intended for department contacts who will enter and maintain their department's class schedules in SIS. A department contact would be responsible for the following tasks: maintaining the class schedules for your department, entering new course sections, adding instructors to courses, maintaining enrollment caps, ensuring accurate grading basis and credit hours, etc. This training does not include academic advising or student enrollment topics.
Requirements: Ohio State lastname.# and associated password. Completion of the Protecting Institutional Data curriculum training in BuckeyeLearn.
Registration: Register online through the BuckeyeLearn website.
Time: Approximately 2.5 hours.
