Diploma Distribution - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I pick up my diploma early?

A: No, you may not pick up your diploma until after the commencement ceremony has begun.

Q: Where do I go to pick up my diploma?

A: Diplomas scheduled for pickup will be available for one week in the lobby of the Student Academic Services Building. Any remaining diplomas will be mailed one week after the commencement ceremony to the address on record with the University Registrar.

Q: What do I need to bring with me to pick up my diploma?

A: You will need to bring an "official" photo ID, such as an Ohio State University BuckID, a driver's license or state ID, military ID or passport.

Q: What do I do if I want a friend or family member to pick up my diploma?

A: You may either complete a Commencement Excused Absence form indicating who will be picking up your diploma (your signature is required) or your designee may bring a letter or note from you with your signature, naming them and giving us permission to release your diploma to them.

Q: I had a "Hold" (Negative Service Indicator) on my account. What do I need to do to pick up my diploma?

A: First, you will need resolve the hold to have it released. Once the hold is released, you may pick up your diploma in the lobby of the Student Academic Services Building if it is within one week of your graduation ceremony. If it is more than one week after the ceremony when you notify us the hold has been removed, we will mail your diploma to the address on record with the University Registrar.

Q: When are the diplomas mailed out?

A: Diplomas for graduates who requested the mailing option will be sent a day or so after commencement. Other remaining diplomas will not be mailed until one week after the commencement ceremony.

Q: What do I do if I have moved since my diploma was mailed out?

A: You should contact your former post office to see if they have the diploma and then contact the Registrar's Office with your new address. Please note that diplomas are not necessarily forwarded by the post office, even is a forwarding service was previously set up for most other types of mail.

Q: My diploma arrive damaged or had a typo. How do I get a new copy?

A: You should contact the Office of Special Events at 614-292-9051 to obtain a replacement or reprint.
