Ohio Residency for Tuition Purposes


The Ohio State University residency guidelines are established by the Ohio Department of Higher Education, which is the planning and coordinating agency for higher education in the State of Ohio. To be classified as a resident for tuition purposes, a student must meet the guidelines for residency as defined by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The state of Ohio provides a tuition subsidy for all residents of Ohio which is largely funded by the taxpayers of Ohio.

*The Online Residency Form and any documents requested that are submitted after the Priority Deadline are not guaranteed to be processed by the fee payment deadline. The final deadline must be met in order to have your residency request reviewed for the specified term.

Ohio Leave Pre-Approval Request

A student, who is planning to attend a unique, once-in-a-lifetime internship, co-op, or educational experience exceeding the two consecutive week maximum, must appeal through the Ohio Leave Pre-Approval form. If the experience gained through the internship could also be achieved in Ohio, the appeal may not be approved. This request must be submitted and approved prior to leaving for the internship.
