Ohio Residency for Tuition Purposes

Selective Service Registration and In-State Tuition

Students who are required to register with the United States Selective Service and have not done so are not eligible for state of Ohio’s tuition subsidy. This is from the Ohio Revised Code, Section 3345.32 that became effective September 25, 1986.

Almost all males living in the United States who are between the ages of 18 and 26 are required to register. For more information on who must register, please visit the Selective Service Website, www.sss.gov/FSwho.htm.

All male students who are required to register through the Selective Service must provide their Selective Service Registration Number to The Ohio State University. If a student who is a resident of the State of Ohio fails to provide his Select Service Registration Number to Ohio State, it will result in the assessment of non-resident fees. Students are expected to make full payment (including non-resident fees) by their appropriate payment due date. Payment deadlines may not be waived or extended if a student is waiting to receive their Selective Service Registration Number, so be sure to register in a timely manner.

A student may use the Online Residency Form through their Applicant Center or My Buckeye Link to submit their Selective Service Registration Number. For directions on how to complete the Online Residency Form, please visit the University Registrar's website, registrar.osu.edu/residency.

If a student needs to register or to look up his registration number, visit the Selective Service System’s website at: www.sss.gov.
